Run Free ready for cricket clash

RUN Free will be taking part in their first ever cricket game on Sunday.

The 30 over clash against Southend & EMT will take place at Southchurch Park, starting at 2pm.

And Run Free’s Chris Phillips cannot wait for the game, which is raising money for Mind, to get underway.

“It’s going to be a fun afternoon and everyone is looking forward to it,” said Phillips.

“Quite a lot of our team haven’t even played cricket before but Run Free is about getting together to have a good time and that’s what we will be doing on Sunday while also raising money for a great cause.

“But none of this would have been possible without the hard work of Sarah Franklin and also Scott Elliott at Southend & EMT who has been brilliant.”

Run Free warmed up for the game with a training session on Friday night.

And former Southend United manager Steve Tilson will be among those in their side.

“I love my cricket and I’m really looking forward to the game,” said Tilson.

“I saw the game being advertised on Twitter so I rang Chris up to ask if I could play.

“I enjoyed coaching the Run Free group at football a few weeks back but I’m much better at doing that than I am at playing cricket.”
